I. University Overview

Founded in 1978, Changzhou Institute of Technology (herein referred to as CIT) is a regular full-time undergraduate degree awarding institution approved by the Ministry of Education in China with a more than 100-year history of offering Teacher Training Education. CIT is located in the “Dragon City” Changzhou, which is in the south part of Jiangsu Province with a history of over 3,200 years. It is now a modern, emergent industrial city with a well-developed economy. It is located in the center of the Yangtze River Delta between Shanghai and Nanjing. It is also the neighbor city of Suzhou and Wuxi. The city’s advantages include convenient transportation facilities such as airports, high-speed trains, and expressways.

CIT has four campuses, namely, Liaohe Road Campus, Wushan Road Campus, Huiguanbang Road Campus (School of Continuing Education), and Science and Technology Industrial Park. The total area is about 87 hectares. There are about 1,300 staff members and over 16,000 full-time students. CIT is a multidisciplinary university with 18 Schools/Teaching Sections, offering 59 undergraduate programs with majors in fields of Engineering, Science, Management, Economics, Literature, Education and Arts.CIT has a modern library, excellent sports facilities, a training building for the integration of production and education, a cultural and art activity center, an international academic exchange center, as well as advanced teaching equipment and laboratories.

Constantly strengthening its international exchange and cooperation, CIT has established friendly cooperative relationships with more than 60 universities and institutions, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Denmark, Germany, Canada, Japan, etc. Besides, CIT has enrolled international students from more than 60 countries and regions. Meanwhile, CIT employs over 30 long-term and short-term foreign teachers to teach language and professional courses every year. They also give teaching demonstration lessons, hold activities such as teaching seminars and academic exchanges.

Since 1994, CIT has enrolled international students. CIT is a Target School for Overseas Study in Jiangsu Province, “Jiangsu Advanced Team in International Students’ Education”, Changzhou Learning Center of the Chinese Language & Culture for Foreigners, and Changzhou Chinese Culture Training Center for Foreigners. It is also a Hanban HSK test center. CIT boasts “Learning Center of Chinese Language” with advanced teaching staff.

II. Programs for International Students

1.Undergraduate Degree Program(taught in Chinese)

It’s a four-year or five-year program. Credit management system and flexible period of schooling are adopted to allow students to finish studies ahead of schedule, postpone or finish studies in stages based on the standard study length stipulated in Talent Cultivation Plan. The study duration can be no longer than six years. Students will be conferred graduation certificate upon obtaining the required total credits, prescribed credits and meeting the graduation requirements. Those who meet the requirements for the degree will be conferred bachelor’s degree certificate.

Students who reach HSK 4 or above can start major study. Those who have not acquired basic Chinese or do not meet the requirements for major study need to strengthen their Chinese learning after enrollment.

2.“3+2” Upgrading Program for Vocational College graduates (taught in Chinese)

CIT carries out “3+2” Upgrading Program for Vocational College graduates with higher vocational colleges, that is, students who have successfully completed 3-year vocational college courses can transfer to CIT for 2 years’ full-time undergraduate education. The study duration can be no longer than three years. Students with all the courses successfully completed within the regulated period will be conferred a diploma and students meeting CIT’s degree awarding requirements will get the bachelor’s degree.

3.Preparatory Undergraduate Program

The Preparatory Undergraduate Program recruits students who want to study in CIT’s undergraduate programs without Chinese language foundation or fail to meet the language requirements for major study. The school duration is half or one year, offering courses such as Comprehensive Chinese, Spoken Chinese, Chinese Listening, Chinese Reading & Writing, and HSK Test Intensive Training etc.

4. 2023 Fall Long-term Program for Chinese Language

The program aims at training students’ Chinese listening, speaking, reading and writing competence as well as improving their cross-cultural communication competences with the course learning period being one to four semesters. Students will be divided into different classes according to their Chinese levels. Courses mainly include Comprehensive Chinese, Spoken Chinese, Chinese Listening, HSK Exam Intensive Training, Chinese Culture, etc. Students attending all the courses and passing all the exams will get Study Certificate upon successful completion of all the courses.

III. Application Requirements

1. Applicants for Undergraduate Degree Program, Upgrade from Vocational College to University Program, Preparatory Undergraduate Program should be above 18 years old with good physical and mental health, who comply with Chinese Laws and regulations, and respect Chinese ethics and customs. Meanwhile, applicants should be foreign citizens with valid passports and obtained senior high school graduates or equivalent education level. For those who were originally Chinese citizens and has acquired foreign nationality, the relevant regulations of the Ministry of Education will be implemented.

2. Applicants for Long-term program for Chinese Language Study should be above 18 and below 60 in principle with good physical and mental health, who comply with Chinese Laws and regulations, and respect Chinese ethics and customs.

3. Those under the age of 18 should submit Guardian Prove Letter (Please refer to https://english.czu.cn/wownloads/list.htmto download). Applicants for majors in economics or sciences should have certain mathematical basis.

V. Application Process and Documents

1. Login to CIT online application system for International students, fill in relevant information and submit application materials online .

2. Upload and submit the following application materials in the system:

(1) Scanned copies of passport (pages with personal information; Passport must be valid for more than one year.); Scanned copies of all visas and residence permits related to China (Concealing Study experience in China is not allowed. If you have never been to China, passport page can be used instead.)

(2) Recently taken bareheaded photo with white background (Electronic)

(3)  Certificate of highest diploma and transcripts (submit translated versions in Chinese or English and get them notarized if the diploma and transcripts are written in other languages)

(4) Certificate of No Criminal Record (submit translated versions in Chinese or English and get them notarized if certificates are written in other languages)

(5) Certificates of Chinese language Level or Advanced Study (if any)

VI. Undergraduate Majors

Most undergraduate programs at CIT majors are open to international students International students will join Chinese students for relevant major study.

VII. Review and Admission

Applicants shall be required to provide supplementary materials or be assessed by written test or interview. Admission results will come out through the online application system. Unsuccessful applicants will not be notified.

IX. Scholarships

1. Jiangsu Government “StudyinJiangsu” Scholarship

Jiangsu Government “StudyinJiangsu” Scholarship is aimed at giving financial assistance and awards to excellent students from other countries. The evaluation of scholarship is in October and November every year. Students who are awarded “Jiangsu Government Scholarship” can’t apply for other kinds of scholarship.

2.Special Scholarship for Excellent Dgree Programs Applicants in CIT

This Special Scholarship is awarded to those excellent applicants who apply for Undergraduate Degree Program or “3+2” Upgrading Program. It is selected at the enrollment application stage. The reward standard is based on the comprehensive evaluation of freshmen's academic performance, interview results, etc., and the standard is 3000 yuan/student or 1000 yuan/student.

3.Scholarship for Excellent International Students in CIT

Scholarship for Excellent International Students is awarded to international undergraduate degree students who have studied in CIT for more than one year and achieved excellent academic records. The evaluation of scholarship is in October and November every year. The amount of the scholarship is 9,000RMB （6,000RMB for “3+2” Upgrading Program Students）. Students who are awarded “Excellent International Students Scholarship” can’t apply for individual scholarship.

4. Individual Scholarship for International Students in CIT

（1）Scholarship for Academically Outstanding International Students in CIT

Scholarship for Academically Outstanding International Students is awarded to  undergraduate degree international students who have studied in CIT for more than one year and achieved excellent academic records. The evaluation of scholarship is in October and November every year. The scholarship is accessible to the yearly registered International students who pay full tuition, which is divided into three levels:  first-class prize (6,000RMB); second-class prize (3,000RMB); third-class prize (1,000RMB).

（2）Scholarship for Comprehensive Qualities of International Students in CIT

Scholarship for Comprehensive Qualities of International Students in CIT is awarded to undergraduate degree international students who actively take part in different sorts of scientific, sports, art or social activities and full play their talent to promote culture exchange. The evaluation of scholarship is in October and November every year. The amount of the scholarship is 500 RMB.

（3）HSK Scholarship

HSK Scholarship for International Students in CIT is aimed at encouraging students who complete the first year Chinese language study, achieve excellent marks in HSK and will continue their undergraduate degree study in CIT. Students will get the scholarship of 2000RMB (pass HSK5 or above) and the scholarship of 1000RMB (pass HSK4). HSK 4 and HSK 5 scholarship cannot be won at the same time.

XI. Visa Application and Registration

Admittees should apply for a visa for study in China (X1 or X 2 visa) at the Chinese embassy (consulate) in the host country with materials such as the ordinary passport, the Admission Notice, the Visa Application Form for Foreign Students in China (JW202 form), and go to Changzhou Institute of Technology for registration at the specified time. Those who fail to pass the entrance examination after registration will be disqualified.
